The Book Thief

This is a book by Marcus Zusak, who is possibly one of the best Australian writers for young adults in a long time.  The Book Thief follows the story of Lisel in the time of Nazi Germany.

Possibly the coolest thing about this book, is the fact that it is narrated by the omniscient voice of Death.  Zusak manages to make Death come off the page and creates him into a real character who narrates this tragic and heartfelt story.

Highly recommended, possibly the best book I’ve read this year.  Be careful where you finish this book though, if you make the poor choice I did, you’ll find yourself blubbering as your plane comes in to land at Melbourne Airport, and the poor unfortunate souls beside you won’t know which way to look.
